Rig a Car & Monster Truck with Newton in After Effects

Today we’re sharing two tutorials explaining how to rig a car and a monster truck in Newton 4, a powerful physics engine from Motion Boutique, in Adobe After Effects.
The first tutorial for the car is simpler, while the monster truck tutorial builds on the concepts, creating a complex rig for the suspension, utilizing Motion Boutique Connect Layers PRO.
Rig a car in Adobe After Effects using Newton 4
Learn how to set up the base of the car, created in Illustrator. Then, you’ll mask the wheels, and link the wheel joints to the car body, and make it move with a little help from Newton 4.

In the second tutorial, learn to rig and animate a monster truck with a complex rig for the Suspensions with Newton. He starts by preparing the truck in After Effects, then head into Newton to set up our simulation. He also also uses Connect Layers PRO to visualize the suspensions in After Effects.

The 2D Physics Engine For Adobe After Effects
Newton 3 brings realistic physics to After Effects, making your 2D composition layers act like solid objects that interact with each other – just like in the real world. It gives you many ways to control the properties of your objects, including type, density, friction, bounciness and velocity. You can also change world properties, like gravity. What’s more, Newton 3 allows you to create realistic joints between objects, so you can easily create complex motion. Once you complete your simulation, the animation is recreated in After Effects with standard keyframes, so you can adjust the timing however you choose. Easy, no?
